CV Advice

Your CV is the first impression your potential employer receives, so it is vital you get it right.

1)      Presentation

Less is more.   The golden rule is to keep your CV at a maximum of 2 pages, any more than two pages it is very unlikely your CV will be read fully. This is because employers simply don't have the time.  Have short descriptions and put key points in bullet points.

2)      Check, Check and Check again

It is important to make sure your CV reads well, with the correct grammar and spelling. It does not reflect well if the employer points out misspelt words.  Read your CV thoroughly but also get it proof read by somebody else, as it is likely they will spot something which you have missed. Check, check and check again.

3)      Sell yourself

The purpose of a CV, to sell yourself and highlight all the skills and experience you have to offer for the role. Instead of describing your experiences, give examples and evidence to back what you say up. Be positive and relate all experience to that job description.

4)      Gaps & Dates

It is important your CV shows a strong timeline, from your education to your current position. Include the month and year of each employment period. If you took a break, make sure you include it on your CV, it looks worse if you ignore gaps and the employer will always notice.
